Sideroblastic Anemia
PLEASE HELP A local Family
Benefit to help a a young lady in the fight for her life'. It’s her second time for a bone marrow transplant and chemo, 6 more month in the hospital.
Occasionally, the anemia is so severe that support with transfusion is required. These patients usually do not respond to
erythropoietin
therapy.

Some cases have been reported that the anemia is reversed or heme level is improved through use of moderate to high doses of pyrodoxine (Vitamin B
6
). In severe cases of SBA, bone marrow transplant is also an option with limited information about the success rate. Some cases are listed on MedLine and various other medical sites. In the case of
isoniazid
-induced sideroblastic anemia, the addition of B
6
is sufficient to correct the anemia.
Desferrioxamine
is used to treat iron overload from transfusions. Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) is the last possible treatment.
Sideroblastic anemia or sideroachrestic anemia is a disease in which the bone marrow produces ringed sideroblasts rather than healthy
red blood cells
(erythrocytes).

It may be caused either by a
genetic disorder
or indirectly as part of
myelodysplastic syndrome
,

which can evolve into
hematological malignancies
(especially
acute myelogenous leukemia
). In sideroblastic anemia, the body has iron available but cannot incorporate it into
hemoglobin
, which red blood cells need to transport oxygen efficiently

The Sandtrap Monthly Party on January 15th, 2012 will be a fund Raiser for Leukemia Victim Little Autmn Brantley.This brave little girl is in a constant Battle with this dreaded disease and the medical bills are staggering for her mom, Jamie. The Scootergoods Magazine Staff will be raffling of A Bucket of Beer every 15 minutes from 2pm.- 4pm Tickets will be $5.00 an arm length. And I am sure between now and then many others will donate items also. As always there will be FREE food for all and Live Music. Please join us to help little Autmn.
